The
Smart Board is an interactive whiteboard that uses touch detection for user
input. A projector is used to display a computer's video output on the
interactive whiteboard, which then acts as a large touch screen. The Smart
Board interactive whiteboard typically comes with four pens, which use digital
ink and replace traditional whiteboard markers. The Smart Board interactive
whiteboard operates as part of a system that includes the interactive
whiteboard, a computer, a projector and whiteboarding software. The components
are connected wirelessly or via USB or serial cables. A projector connected to
the computer displays the desktop image on the interactive whiteboard. The
whiteboard accepts touch input from a finger, pen or other solid object. Smart
Board interactive whiteboards are also available as a front-projection
flat-panel display – interactive surfaces that fit over plasma or LCD display
panels. The term smartboard usually
refers to a specific brand of electronic whiteboard made by the company SMART Technologies,
but the term is increasingly being used to refer to any brand of electronic
whiteboard. Most smartboards have the same features, allowing users to input
data through the use of plastic pens that contain no ink, the user's hands, a wireless mouseor
pointing device. The software for the smartboard is loaded onto a local
computer or network, where smartboard-compatible software can then be called
upon for use on the screen.

and an eraser that, when used, allow the user to write and draw on the
interactive whiteboard. The pens do not contain any ink; rather sensors
within the product tell it which colored pen you have and draws the appropriate
color when you touch the board. Using the free notebook software included
with SMART Board, you can assign different colors and patterns to any pen.
